Which style of retrofit roller lifters?
Which style of retrofit roller lifters?
There are two different kinds of aftermarket retrofit roller lifters. Some have vertical bars linking lifters to one another, and others have what looks like bars laying horizontally with some sort of spring in the lifters. Some companies make one kind, some make the other, and some make both. Any ideas as to which style is preferable?

AFAIK for a street motor it doesn't make a whole lot of difference. Most of the ones I've used have been the vertical bar type. I've never had a problem with either, and haven't run into a situation where either design was clearly superior.
The Lunati ones with the horiz bars are designed such that the link bar rests against the block before the lifter goes all the way in, and the spring has to be compressed to push the lifter all the way down to where it contacts the cam; then if you remove the rocker and pushrod, the spring pushes the lifter back up far enough to slide the cam out. That way you don't have to pull the intake to swap the cam. Of course if you use a Hydra-Rev or equivalent then that doesn't work.
