Do I need a heated O2 sensor?

I have an open 4" exaust after my turbos, where my sensor is, so no backpressure pretty much.

I only use it for an A/F gauge tho, not a computer. I don't need it to react fast enough for an ECM..but I do need it accurate. Would a heated one be nessecary?

As long as the tube after the turbo is warm and is getting an accurate reading then you shouldn't need a heated sensor. The heated unit is to help the car get into closed loop faster, but that's if you have efi! I would think your best bet would to get a wideband 02 sensor. I wish I knew if the best place to have an 02 sensor was right after the fins. Sorry I can't help you with that but there is no reason to get a heated 02 sensor unless you plan on going to EFI .

This post is old but I wanted to bring it BTT.

The car is running now and I'm not convinced my 02 gauge is reading right. Seems to be rich even when it *should* be lean. I'm not sure if a heated 02 sensor will help me or if I have some physical problem with the Holley on it.

Also what do I tell the parts counter guy I have that will get me a suitable heated sensor for the cheapest?

You need to find a universal heated sensor.. You could just tell the guy at the parts counter to open the boxes and grab you one with 3 wires. Its gonna be 3 times as expensive as a normal o2 sensor. Im sure you can find one on the internet somewhere.

MSD-8935 81.99 at summit
BOSCH 15703 63.99 at www.kragen.com, thats a 4 wire
BOSCH 13077 85.99 3 wire

After 1993 GM started using heated o2 sensors in everything, so you could just try a 94 corvette or something.
