My idea for a reliable 11 sec daily driver, whatcha think?
Any body running any caddy powered 3rd gen's here? Here's the specs.
472-500 ci. Cadillac engine Maybe a slight bore
Mild cam
P&P 425 heads
Edelbrock Alum. intake (weight savings of 20 lbs.)
Chevy Big Block headers with custom flanges welded on
800-850 cfm Holley or Demon carb
TH400 tranny with 2000 RPM stall
12 bolt rear w/ 3.05 posi rear gear
True dual 2.5 inch exhaust with flowmaster mufflers.
Imagine that combo in an 86-90 Formula body with SFC's and other suspension mods! The caddy 472/500 engine only weighs 40 more pounds than a small block chevy with the aluminum intake on it.
We're talking about a car that can be built for $5000-$6000, be totally streetable, and get deep into the 13's reliably, and into the 11's on NO2. Anyways, that's my idea of a good budget racer/daily driver. Any thoughts or opinions? That is an easy honest combo for 500-600 hp right there. Not too many reliable 500-600 hp small block running around that can be driven daily (not a flame BTW, just an idea).
BTW, these numbers are based off of horsepower ratings and weight of the vehicles that they will be in. I haven't seen any hard data or any vehicles that have had this done to them before. Opinions anyone?

There was an article in Hot Rod or Car Craft a couple of years ago where they took a 500 caddy and stuck it in 80s malibu (I think), the 500 had a cam, intake, header and all. It was kinda radical for the street, I dont remember the compression, but it ran 10s. Like everyone said in the drag race forum 500-600 hp should get you in the low 11s to high 10s in a heavy, well set up car. I think 12s on motor should be easy

Well, that sure would be nice. I think The formula body will be the way to go weight-wise, because it appears to be the lightest f-body, save for the 1-LE's.
This car will have all the creature comforts as well like A/C, nice stereo, but also have a decent roll cage too. I think I can build this car to at least running (drag race) condition for under $6000. That is the project anyways. If done right, I could possibly get into PHR or Gmhtp magazines. I just like the idea of doing something original like this.

If you want to make it into GMHTP you had better swap that 850 Holley for some EFI.
