vats bypass
I know I've seen this topic before but I was wondering how you bypass the vats. I am having a custom chip burned for my computer and I would like to know if the computer itself can be changed(reprogrammed) to get rid of the vats. The car is a 89 RS that I swapped a 350 tpi into. I would greatly appreciate any help or info.
Most chip burners can disable the VATS. Otherwise check the article in the tech section. https://www.thirdgen.org/newdesign/tech/vats.shtml
The VATS info is in the chip itself, not the ECM. So if you are doing a custom chip anyways, just delete the VATS in it.
WHy do you want to rid yourself of an anti-theft device?

I wouldn't want VATS, either. You can bet if I ever buy an f-body with VATS, I'm disabling it ASAP... the last thing I need is for that system to crap out on me. I'll stick with my own starter kills- at least if those break, I know where they are, and how to make sure they're working.

My car was broke into last Sunday. They peeled the column and could figure out why it wouldnt start. VATS was all that saved me from being carless. IMO I would rather pay to play with VATS than pay for a new car.
I just payed 260 bucks to have the column rebuilt about 6 months ago too

My car was bought as a theft recovery by the man I got it from. I guess rather than buy a vats key from gm he just used a regular key and used a push button to operate the starter. I don't want to do that because I think that's pretty cheesy. I wouldn't mind to have the system working again but I don't know much about wiring. I saw a small connector under the column with two small yellow wires that had been cut, is this part of that system? This car was a V6 and I swapped in the V8. Its tpi system and computer are from a 86 firebird. Does that make a difference?
