What kind of cam are you guys running?

For those of you with aftermarket cams - what duration at 050, LSA and max. lift are you running? How do you liike it?

I have a stock 350 cam and want to get something maybe in the 218/230 range. I've got a 3000 stall and 3.73 gears.

Why did you choose your cam and how is it working for you? - how much power are you getting, how bad(or good) is idle, and is mileage realy suffering? Thanks.

Was in my 350 and loved it, plenty streetable and breaks were good, still had 13 lb's of vacuum.

Its now going in my new 383 .

Mileage sucks, brakes are ok, idle sucks. Im running a 3500 stall, so I dont notice any lack of low end, but the top end is pretty insane. No dyno numbers yet.

Truthfully, if I could do it over again and I wanted a cam this size or bigger, I would have put in a solid roller.

Identical cam, but my idle doesn't suck (800RPM). Behind a 5-speed with 4.11's and the top end power is definitely INSANE .

Mine is the edelbrock performer rpm 234/238 and 539/548 and is a hyd roller. Im putting it in tommorow. Supposed to be a choppy idle and make power from 1,500-6,500 and my car has 3.73's and a 5speed. We are all running similar cam specs.

Wow, lots of testosterone here !

My cam... 222/222 .467/.467 @ .050 (110 LSA). Idles nice
at slightly higher 800 rpm. But still, went 12.88 with it
due to good traction (1.79 60 ft).

My 383 had a flat hydraulic 224/230 .477/.480 110, but it ate itself when the oil pump died. I'll be probably be using a 236/242 .520/.540 110 hydraulic roller when it goes back together.

Good to read that. I have Roostmeyer's old cam (XE276HR) and was wondering how it would be with AFRs and either an LT1 or an HSR. I know it takes tuning, but knowing larger cams aren't killing manners altogether makes for peace of mind....

What would solid roller do for ya? Just more lift? I assume you already are using a roller, not flat tappet.

Guess I'm the oddball guy of the group. I bought my cam with TPI in mind.

Lingelfetler 74211 cam.
211/219 @.050" duration
.530/.560" lift w/1.6rr's
112* lobe sep
installed straight up.

Seems to be doing okay, no tune on the car yet, and the plugs are just a tad fouled. Pull's way harder up top then down low (odd, but I think its so rich down low that it responds very slugishly.) Hangs with LT1's up top on the highway from 80mph rolls to about 140 or 150mph.

Hung with an LT1/M6 w/hooker cat-back all the way through 3rd gear till I let off because I was turning 5,700rpm.

So I'm happy for now, can't wait to get it tuned.

XE276HR for me, .503/.510 lift with 1.6 roller rockers, 224/230 duration with HSR intake on a 350....haven't put the motor in yet tho...ran into a few roadblocks...from what i understand it is a great street cam, not to lumpy, but more than enough umph...

More lift, yes...and a lighter valvetrain, more aggressive ramps, and more rpm potential.

Also, to avoid ~5000rpm valve float, I could only use about 1/4 turn past zero lash on the (Comp-R) lifter preload. This seems loose enough to worry me, so I check it regularly...and this pretty much nullifies the main advantage of the hyd. roller.
