1982 TA computer port

Hello,

Just wondering where the computer port is to check engine codes. To the bottom right of the steering column I found a rectangular plate and when I removed it there was nothing there. I think the port should be there right?? If so someone seriously hacked the harness. Am I looking in the right place?

Yeah, that's where it should be. I think it's a 12 pin connector, although not all the pin ports have connectors in them- only 4 or 5 do.

Well, if it is not there then your car must have been converted to a non cc controled carb enviroment or for some strange reason someone took it out. I'm not too familiar with the 82's setups, I guess it could have come factory that way depending on engine size??? My 84' does have this port, I have jumped a wire a few times to pull engine codes from the ecm. Mine has a cc q-jet.

well acording to the VIN it was a 305 Crossfire. However it has since been changed over to a carb setup. I don't know why someone would remove the computer port though...it's not necessary. If it has been removed then the person who did it is a moron. I hate people who start hacking at wiring harnesses because they don't know what they are doing and think that they don't need any wires because they are going to carb. It's just going to make it harder for me to make it right again.

Remove the "hush panel" under the dash and see if the diag connector is tucked away. If memory serves me some of the computer harness is part of the dash harness so that connector should be there even if the computer harness was removed. Hopefully the nimrod didn't go crazy with a wire cutters!
