hey guys well heres the problem, I have an 89 firebird with a 2.8. On my way home the car just died, i towed it to my buddy's house and did some checking out, i was doing 65 mph with the cruise on by the way and there was no warnig just a shut off. the rotor would not turn with the engine so we checked the timing chain, sure enuff and soon as we pulled the cover off the chain fell out, we replaced it, but found that the cloys timing gear does not have a dot like a normal chain has it has like a bulge looking line, so we went off of that, and set both at 12 o'clock per the computer at my dads shop haynes says top gear at 6 and bottom at 12, well we could not get it to run that way so we put them at 12, well heres the problem when we hook the battery back up the lights flash and the internal alam goes off "speaker under hood is disconnected" there is a toggle switch next to the diagnostic port and it shut the alarm off when the key is on, but the engine will not turn over or anything, the fuel pump kicks on and you here a rattle at the intake, but the security light stays on, except for a few times and it went out but the car still would not turn over, please help if you needs more details let me know
