Curious about Oil Pressure

Hey. I know all about too little oil pressure, and the disastrous effects that can have. However, is there such a thing as too high oil pressure. It got me thinking the other day when I watched my gauge move past the 45 to about 47ish for the first time ever. If it can be too high...what would be a cause/fix for this?

Just for idle curiousity now, what would be to high of an oil pressure? Again, what would be the cause of this, and what could be done to fix it?

i dunno, but my L98 just got rebuilt with a melling M55 oil pump, and it pushes max on the gauge on start and will dwindle down only a little after it's been running. i don't think that would be normal, but the engine barely has 300 miles on it...

My digital oil gauge peaks out when it's cold, and when I drive it. When warm, idle pressure is at sixty or something. When I get around to it, I'll hook up a calibrated mechanical gauge and see what the pressure really is.

Mines around 65psi at 1000rpm right off a cold start, and is about 40psi at 1000 when warm.

(This is with a mechanical guage BTW)

I have seen 90psi on mine once or twice right after a cold start-up off idle. However, I have my bypass blocked off.
