When do you know it's time for a re-build

So... the car im getting has a $10,000 engine in it. Im not throwing ti out. lol

Anyways it has 80,000 KM on it (thats about 50,000 Miles). It has been raced 5 or 6 times, but other than that it's not used to the max.

How do I know when it's time for a rebuild? What signs would I see, what would I look at under the hood?

Thanks,
Will

Oil consumption increase, compression loss, power loss, unusual noises, rough running.

For starters.

Wow thanks. So im guessing oil consumption increase is the highest sign?

This is a very variable question... but around what mileage does a V8, 5.0L, 355 HP high performance racing engine need to be repaired at?

I don't have all the specs of my engine yet, my car is arriving tomorrow, I will place pics of it in this thread https://www.thirdgen.org/techbb2/sho...hreadid=294911

Thanks, any guess is better than mine.

10K for a 355hp 305? Parts must cost a lot where you come from.

They cost about the same, but the money is a different color.

I just got it today, it has forced intake on it, so I guess its supercharged.

On a daily driver, what five7kid said.
On my race car, every winter.

A properly maintained daily driver might not need a rebuild for a long time. At 50,000 miles about the only thing it should need is a head reconditioning. Valve grind, new springs etc. I doubt there's anything wrong with the bottom end.
