Backfire when rev real high

Well I just got my car today. Its a real nice engine with forced induction. It JUST got out of winter storage and this is the first time it has been driven. But before the guy sold it to me he washed it down with a pressure hose and got water in the distributor.

So this guy with a loud muffler thought he was so cool in his honda. So I revved back and did a burnout. I had a small backfire (pop out of the muffler).

What are all the things that could cause this?

Thanks,
Will

some mufflers just make that popping sound when the engine has to slow itself from higher rpms....that be part of it

I have somewhat the same problem, but i only backfire when im coming down from hard acceleration in drive, when the rpms are slowly pulling down from 3k+ it will go POP, REALLY REALLY loud, sounds like a gun shot, im thinking my timing is too far advanced. Originally one of my header gaskets had a big leak in it so I figured that was just sucking cold air into it and causing it to expand at a rapid rate or something like that. I replaced the gaskets and I still get that problem :|
oh another thing, if it could happen because of leaks in the exhaust, I think I have a leak on the passenger side header when it goes into the y-pipe, would that cause the massive explosion?

oh yeah another thing, people say I shoot flames out my tail pipes when I nail it, not quite sure why, but I need to find out why otherwise my gas tanks gona go pop.

real long exhaust duration or timing too retarded can cause this.ever watch an autocross race?the extreme exhaust duration causes the exhaust to spit fire on hard deceleration, but if you have a muffler gas tends to build up a bit due to the backpressure then light off!i have seen several cars blow the mufflers right off due to this!the forced induction will only complicate this problem.get an msd type ignition and get that timing right before you burn an exhaust valve or get a real suprise!BAABOOOOOMMMMM!!!!!lmao!
