A/C compressor question.
I did do a search...didn't find anything.
I want to convert my Camaro to R134a. Where can I find a compressor for a reasonable price to do this?
The dealer wants $283. What should I pay? Thanks.

The 134a conversion simply replaces seals and a fitting here and there, as far as I'm aware! You shouldn't need a new compressor.....
You have to replace the o-rings/seals because 134a will deteriorate the R-12 fittings.

You don't need to replace the compressor. New orings, new orifice tube, conversion fittings for the service ports, lower the pressure on the low side pressure switch (one-fourth turn counter clockwise) and charge with the correct oil for R134a.

If you see any signs of leakage around the compressor replace it, if not go ahead and replace the above items. According my local dealer they get thier compressors from the same source as the local parts houses, no new stuff just new price. You may also want to look into other products such as freeze 12 or hotshot. They are closer to r12 as far as cooling and tend not to leak as bad as R134.

i would recommend replacing the accumulator, if the system has empty for very long or has been opened, then the accumulator really needs to be replaced.
also, once its all back together, pull a vacuum on it with a good vacuum pump, the longer the better.
