Cutting weight in car
What have you guys done to lower the weight of your cars? Anyone remove the back seats? If so, how many pounds did it remove?

Search the archive. There are many comments on reducing weight.
First of all you need to know what you want to do with the car. If it's going to stay street legal, there's only so much weight you can remove. If you don't care about appearance or factory safety features then there's a lot of weight you can remove.

I've done this with every car I own. First thing, I ditch the spare and the jack. Second thing to go is the heat/sound insulation under the carpet along with any undercoating that may be in the interior. Third is all of the undercoating under the car in the wheel wells etc. Emissions equipment along with climate control is the next thing to go. The rear seats only save like 5 lbs, so I generally don't worry about it plus you can still haul your rowdy friends around. Radio speaker delete is good for 10-20 lbs. You can do all of this and still have a car that doesn't look like a racecar. If you want to go all out without buying new parts the seats, carpet, electric deck lid mirror and window motors, interior, and dash have to go. If you still aren't light enough it's time to start spending money. It's pretty straight forward from there.

you are right to some extent, before you rip out your interior you can do manythings and still look stockish, One switch stuff to Aluminum, like the driveshaft, heads, H2O pump, manifold(if you have a iron one), etc etc. that cuts so much weight. AC weighs alot too so he is right there, and anything you can live without get rid of, I don't reccomend getting rid of you carpet insulation b/c if this a daily driver then you will get ROAD NOISE, I know I and girls don't like that.
i went as far as removing the bulbs from my car, plus used a glass hood, removed carpet, seats, heater, spekers, wiper motor, spare, trim panels, turn signal switch, anything and everything went to save weight, all depends on hw radical you want to get.

That's also why I never mentioned all the stuff I removed from my car to remove weight (and I'm not done). It could never be made street legal again. My goal is to get it down to 2800 pounds with me in it.
