no open loop?

when i had the 305 in my car and started it up it would rise in rpm to about 1000 and after a few min it would drop back down to about 400. i put a 350 in and it has been twitching a lot and running not too good and was wondering why doesnt go up to 1000 rpm during startup? is that my prob? and i have the stock computer

FB,

The fuel rates of the "stock" computer for the 305 are going to be very low. The 350 will tend to run lean, and the ECM will try to deliver what it considers a "maximum" amount of idle fuel at a given IAC opening/air rate. This will be too low for a 350, and you should install a PROM from a 350 truck engine or SO\EO/police vehicle.

my car actually runs tooo rich to where my plugs are completly black and it twitches and every thing is screwed up so i just thought that becasue it doesnot idle up high at first that would be the cause like the iac valve wich i am currently tring to see if it is still alive

I have been tiring to get my car running for the last past months and I am stuck, and about the chip I am going to get a chip burn from someone here that is suppose to be really good at it and has a similar setup to me but he told me that I would have to check my spark plugs at WOT and at idle when my car is running go but it is not so I cant get a chip right now.
my car runs very rich and it twitches wich i think it is injecting way too much fuel
`Ok i am going to tell you every thing i have done to try to find out what’s wrong with it.
~The first the thing i did was to mess with base timing for a couple of days figured out finally it was not that because it was impossible for it to run even smooth with the EST out of the hook
~ Next thing i tried was to check all my sensors and they are hooked up right and look good and i checked my plugs and they were completely black so i knew i was running very rich
~Next, I checked the tps because i got a code of 22 which is tps low volts so i checked it and it was good at .53 volts and 5 at WOT so that was good and checked the minimum air and it was good
~Next, had a little kink in the fuel line and didn’t think it would do much so i fixed that any ways but still no work,
~Next, i tried to check the fuel pressure regulator because i think it is getting too much fuel so i adjusted it and it didn’t help it either ran like crap or just died.
~So next i thought about the how it did not idle at first at 1000 rmp so i looked at the iac valve and don’t really know how to check it because i cant get it to running temp because i am scared i might hurt something from running so rich and jerking so much, and when I unplug it, it does not do any thing, I don’t know if it is suppose to do that but it does might be my problem I just don’t know.

So that is were i am at now and i am thinking also that maybe all my problems might be in open loop and might go away in closed loop so i am thinking about experimenting with a resistor to make it think it is warmed up and see if it runs any better and see if the iac valve is working.
ANY THING you can think of would be greatly appreciated because i am out of ideas and could use a lot of help. Sorry for the length of this

i checked my coil today still doesnt work. i need help! an how do you check to see if you iac is working???????
