I am stuck. I am trying to decide if i want to keep the FI or go carburated. The only way i will consider going carburated is if the victor jr. or rpm air gap will fit under the stock hood with air cleaner. My only reason for considering this is because it will see the track, i am not rich, it is a mass air car(tpi), dont need a programmed prom. Whats holding me back is i love thi tpi. I love the mini ram. i love fuel injection. can you see my problem. any advice would be greatly appreciated.

There is NO WAY an Air Gap, let alone a Vic Jr, will fit under your stock hood. A Performer not RPM is about all you can jam under there.
The MiniRam will slap right in.
Lose the MAF, and get a MiniRam and some cubic inches.

carbbed = POWER (imagine some pro buff wrestler saying that)
carbbed will be 10 times easier cause there wont be such a mess of wires, and theres SOO much more you can so with it. Your engine bay will look a hell of alot cleaner. Then you can ditch the computer and all that. When I do mine its gonna be carbbed. Gotta keep the classic muscle car open element look.
Cant really persuade you, its what you like. You could sell that tpi thingy for alotta $$green$$

yeah man, if your harness isn't too bad you could end up selling the TPI and computer for atleast $500 used. People love the TPI's for off roading cause they love low end. and dont need top end.

not too much problem fitting my rpm or rpm air gap under a stock hooded 86 camaro.just use a carriage type bolt instead of the factory carb stud and nut,add a drop base air cleaner and a 2 3/8"to 2 1/2"element and you're there!
just don't break a motor mount!lol!

I had a holley street dominator intake with a 670cfm street avenger carb under a stock hood. With a 3'' dropbase air cleaner.
The dominator is pretty tall. Idle-7200rpm intake. It is about the same as an RPM size wise. It fit.

Not to add more confusion, but while you may not "need" a custom PROM, you can certainly gain from one. A short running intake like an LT1 or MR feeds bigger cube engines well, and retains the EFI.
We all know that carbs are so much better, and that the EFI 427 that puts 500+ HP to the rear wheels and still makes torque at 7,000 RPM on newer LS7 engines is just a figment. A carbed 427 is obviously better at 390HP.
My point is, be careful about blanket statements, since there are exceptions to every rule. You can retain the EFI and make appreciable power.
