No oil going to the heads.... please help
i just fired off my new motor last nite... 350, MiniRam, AFR 195's.... anyways while i was breaking it in, I noticed the oil pressure was at 35 pounds when i was holding it a 2500rpms.... at an idle the guage reads 10 pounds.... i pulled the valve cover off and noticed that the rocker arms are completly dry... what could possibly be the promlem... i know that the bottom end is getting oil because i pulled the plug that sits behind the intake and oil shoots out of there.... any help will be appreciated thanks..
FN91,
Do yourself a big favor and DON'T run the engine any more! You'll need to verify that the rear cam bearing was installed correctly and is providing oil to the lifter oil galleries (and thus push rods and rockers). Also make sure the gallery plugs are sealed in the ends of the lifter galleries. Front plugs missing or leaking won't leak externally and may not be obvious.
It will be far safer to remove the distributor and use an oil pump priming shaft in a large electric drill (or hand crank) to test the lubrication system. Eventually, at least one of the push rods should start getting oil flow if the assembly is correct.
You should also check the filter to make sure it isn't plugged from debris and assembly lube.
This might help, too:
