How do you remove the oil sending unit????

I purchased the oil sending unit as suggested by the members here. The only problem is how do you remove it. I even bought the socket made specially for the sending unit, but GM forgot to leave enough space for the socket to get into the unit. I've tried a pair of pliers, however the unit must really be out, because the main body turns except for the base. Also oil dripped out of the connector.

Is this on the brass "stalk" adapter? If so, you might want to just sodomize it until most of it comes off, then take the brass adapter out and deal with it outside the car. Replacement OPSUs usually have a hex on the fitting to avoid this problem.

Oil leaking out the electric part is a common failure mode; if you have that, then it's definitely at least part of your problem.
