anyone that has an autometer air/fuel ratio gauge....

I just put mine in the other day cause i wanted to do some lazy mans carb tuning. anyway the thing acts weird as hell. if i'm just cruising down the street, it usually doesnt read anything unless i punch the gas, in fact it usually only gives a sensible reading when i'm on it. at idle, i have my carb nearly as rich as it can go and this gauge reads anywhere from no reading to very lean to just about right. i'm just wondering if i have some sort of problem here (no vacuum leaks, i checked) or this thing just acts funky....thanks

from what i have read on this board the O2 sensor in these cars are less then perfect. basicly they either read rich or lean and thats about it. i have an autometer a/f from my old car that i havent installed yet just because of that reason.

now i am new to the camaro world, chevy's to for that matter, so do a search and see what it comes up with. my thoughts on the problem are that if the stock O2 wont read much beyond lean/rich a wide band O2 is the only cure.

A stock style O2 (even a heated one) is sufficient, but it does have limitations the further you get from 14.7:1.

if you are rich past 12:1 or so it won't read right at all....usualy showing off the charts lean. Lean your carb out a bit...see if you can get the readings to make more sense.

Also use plug reading to suppliment the gauge. If the gauge reads lean, but the plugs are black..it's a good clue you're rich off the charts.
