PLEASE HELP. dont know whats wrong!
Hey guys. I have a 2.8 Mpfi auto and whenever i start it up it always starts and then dies. when i start it up again it almost dies, sputters and is very rough at idle. Then when i shift into reverse the car stalls out. Only after many tries will it go into reverse without stalling. Otherwise the car runs strong. O there is also a whistling noise i get whenever i accelerate from bout 20-50 mph. Would my replacing the stock air scoops (the ones that connect to the baffles that hold the air filters) with more tubing and a cone filter have anything to do with the problem? The MAF is still hooked up. This has happened b4 and someone told me it was the O2 sensor so i replaced it and it worked for about a week. do any of you know whats wrong? Your help is greatly appreciated! Thanks!
i would check for a vacuum leak

hooker headers
750 vac secondary

The best way to check for a vacuum leak is to get a can of carb cleaner. With the car running, spray anywhere two surfaces meet. If the RPMs drop, you found your leak.
I would also look at your idle air control valve passage. You have to remove your IAC, its that black round thing at the top left as you face the motor. Unscrew it and see if its clogged.
The whistling is probably to be blammed on the cone filter. The baffles are noise dampeners, so the noise is probably their fault.
Does your car crank fine when cranked after warming up? If so, you could have a bad CTS for the ECM, which would mean its not sending enough gas and causing you to stall.
Despite all of my opinions, l'd try them in order.

hey guys, Thanks alot for all your help. i took a look at the IAC valve and noticed it was covered in dirt so i wiped it off and put everything back together. the car then started fine and didnt stall when i put it into gear. needless to say i was very happy until i started it up again and after 5 seconds it stalled. bah! anyways ill probably take a look at the vacuum hoses now. o sunbitz i gutted my cat, would that have anything to do with it? well thanks again everybody.

Gutted cat should not have anything to do with it then.
I think you're heading in the right direction by checking the vacum hoses.
Good luck!
