It's better than the $1200 engine. I used that caprice engine as the basis for my engine. I sold the heads to my friend and replaced them with edelbrock heads. I replaced the weak camshaft w/ a zz4. That engine is a pretty good choice but I would at the very least repalce the camshaft.

You will have to use your existing dampner or buy a new one because the timing marks are at the 12:00 position instead of the 2:00 that is needed for the TPI engines in order to see the timing marks.

I used this engine to replace my LB9 as well. Everything but the dampner should work w/ out any problems since you have an 87 LB9 w/ the 1-piece RMS and theverticle center manifold holes.

The stock compression is good and it is better than a pepboys rebuild.

I would suggest a new PROM because you are going from a 305 to a 350 but some people have just left it alone. I would at least get a memcal for a 350 TPI, there are several options for that. That will set you back around $45~60 depending on the dealer.

I just put that same engine in my gta over christmas all i did was change the damper and put my TPI down on top of it. It runs great it ran a 15.2 with out even changing anything other than the damper. That was completly stock.
