Is it a 305 or 350?
Dr. Frankenstein owned my car at some point in its life. It doesn't have centerbolt valve covers or a serpentine drive belt anymore, so I know it's not the original set up. I've always assumed it is a 305, but now that I've got most everything working the way it was intended to, the motor feels REALLY strong. Is there any physical way to identify the engine? The block numbers most closely match an '83 305. I'm just curious, so a teardown for measurement purposes isn't gonna happen till it dies.

88 IROC with cobbled together (not by me)drivetrain, 86 (?) TPI unit on an '83 305,CE subframe connectors, Edelbrock strut tower brace, polygraphite bushings all around...it handles like a dream, but man is it hard to push!!

Get the casting # off the block. (not the numbers stamped in the deck) It will tell you if it is a 4" bore or a 3.736" bore, with 100% certainty.
