l69 305 camshaft

what would be a good cam for me?
its an l69 with performer rpm intake, holley 750 tuned for the 305,hedman shorties and y-pipe,edelbrock catback. I just got the hedders and want to put in the cam at the same time i do the hedders..It should be easier to do the hedders and cam with the engine out,Right? What would be the best cam
for my setup?
Thanks in advance.

There's a lot of info missing from the ask but I'll give you a starting point:

Comp Cams 268 High Energy cam will make considerably more high end HP without making the bottom end mushy and the idle rough.

For something a little hotter try the Xtreme Energy 268. This one WILL have a mushy bottom end below 2500 and the idle will be considerably rougher, but it will make a little more power than the High Energy grind.

Don't go ANY hotter than that if you are running stock heads becuase the top end power increases will not make up for what you lose off the bottom end. And the car will be miserable to drive.

Remember to match both these cams with the correct valve springs.

Try the CompCams XE262. It makes great torque in a 305 and adds topend too. I had one in my LG4 and it pulled like a bat outta hell with only the cam and headers. The idle was pretty good too.

I must interject...I have the XE262 cam in my 350 w/ stock heads and I'm not totally satisfied. thats because my rear sucks, I have a 3.08 rear. High points: when that baby hits 2500-3000 rpms it pulls like hell. the idle sounds mean, but it's a little shaky. here's the sucky part, low end is pretty bad. i can light them up from a complete stop (actually i run bad 1/4 times cause i cant get traction) so it's not that bad, but if i hammer it in second gear, the bitch bogs until the motor revs up. it may be partially a trans problem too, because my 700r4 doesnt always downshift into first when I think it should, and thats when I get most of the bogging. but there will still be times when I'm in second gear and revving too high to go back down into first and it will still bog. a set of 3.42's and maybe even a torque converter would meake me much happier. if you have decent gears, or a manual trans I think you would like it. but if not, give careful consideration into that cam, as it is a nice chioce but can cause some aggravation.

I have a Comp XM264HR in my L69, with it has a set of 186 double-hump heads on it, and Edelborck TES. I lost some compression that way unfortunately, in exchange for a whole bunch of flow. But it runs OK, especially for a car that passes CA emissions.

If you're using the stock 416 heads, the XE262 is about as far as you should go; with a complete bowl job you might, maybe, gain something from a XE268, but I kind of doubt it.

Try the Crane 2040 Compucam. Specs out around 210/216 dur @.050 .440/.454 I think. Should be about perfect. I have the 2030 in my old 86 IROC's 305 TPI, and it could be bigger... However I think the CompCams XE262 may be a little too big (Have that in my 87Z's 350). If you have the 5spd and 3.73 combo you might try the XE262, otherwise certainly stick to the 2040... Just my .02

I do have the 5 speed 3.73 combo,,,and it does have stock heads,But in the near future
I am getting the world products 305 torquers.
I want a cam that will work good with the wp's but still run fine with the stock ones for now.And maybe still work with the stock springs to.

thanks for the replies so far...
