Vac hose routes... Tank Pressure contl valve???

I got a problem with idleing too rich... go here for the details: https://www.thirdgen.org/messgboard/...ML/001130.html

So I tried to re-route my vacuum lines to the charcol canister to see if that was the problem. I figure my Tank Pressure Control Valve is not hooked up right (especially since my gas tank no longer makes the "whoosh" sound when I open the gas cap) and maybe I.m sucking extra gas into the carb... makes sense.

So I hook it up to the PCv, but that isn't fixing the problem. So I look at the emmissions sticker and see the Canister Control (has 2 big and 2 little ports for vacuum hoses) isn't hooked up 100% correctly. I have the first big port going to the Purge TVS (which then goes to the charcol canister), the second big port is supposed to go to "port T" on the old q-jet. The first small port goes to the PCV, and the end most small port on the Canister Control goes to "port H" on the old q-jet.

I know port J went to the EGR, port B went to the air filter controls, and port L goes to the PCV...
Questions are: Are both port T and port H full time vacuum? Does it matter? And does anyone have an idea why I am rinning slightly rich if this isn't the problem? LOL

Biochem...

I'll be home around 5pm and I can check my vacuum lines then. I can even give you some digital pics on how it is set up.

I spent several hours studying the helms manual and other thirdgens before getting this right.

I think I can get you a pic of the hose diagram off my 83, should be nearly the same as your 84...

I'll also look at the various ports and see if I can figure out which ones are what.

Hopefully you don't have a vacuum leak, that stuff is so nasty, gets all over everything; poisonous too I hear, laboratory rats will die within just a few seconds of exposure to an atmosphere of 100% vacuum It's bad stuff, better get your vacuum cleaner out and make sure you get it all cleaned up if any is leaking out.

LOL@Rob!

Thanks for the offer of pics 99... that would be useful. But I guess my main question is what kind of vacuum ports are "T"and "H" on the sticker diagram? Are they full time vacuum or part time vacuum? I seem to recall they were both full time vacuum as far as I could tell by looking at the base of the Q-jet. I think they are both hooked up to full time vacuum on the Holley now too.

OK, so I like broke down and actually opened my hood. It still works. And then {gasp} I looked at the carb!

So here's the deal. Port T is the fuel bowl vent; it's a 3/8 hose that goes up at the top of the carb, that just allows the vapors in the top of the fuel bowl to go (I guess) to the canister. Port H is ported vacuum, it goes to the topmost connection on the canister control valve. Why that valve gets both constant vacuum and ported vacumm is beyond me.

Port L supplies constant vacuum to the PCV, EFE valve, the canister itself, and the AIR valve. J goes to the EGR solenoid, and is another ported vacuum. B goes to the air cleaner Thermac, and the choke pulloff (which doesn't show up on the diagram because it's part of the carb, I suppose).

Sounds to me like your connection of the big line that used to go to "T" is wrong; it should porobably be plugged.

I also could snap a pic if you need it.

Rob,

That's exactly what I was looking for! My port T is hooked up to vacuum now, so that cannot be good I am not sure which ports on the Holley are ported or full time vacuum... I think I only have one ported for the HEI I'll hunt around for one with the vacuum gauge today. I'd rather not have this thing at all (e-check purposes), but if I do, I might as well have it running correctly. Hope this does it!
