car stalls at idle
car stalls at idle
Hey everyone,
I was driving my car today ('91 Firebird Formula), and I noticed some weird stuff. First, while driving, 45-55 mph, the oil pressure stays at like 55 to 60 psi, but when I stop at a red light or any other time I'm just idling, the pressure falls to about 25-30 psi. From reading other posts that seems normal, though. Well, today, I was waiting in line at my bank, and I noticed that it was idling kinda irratically. The oil pressure was about 25 or so, but I was running at like 400-500 RPM. It was kinda loping, but nothing too bad, when all of a sudden, it dies out on me. Well, it had no problem starting back up, but it kinda worried me. I just had the engine rebuilt about 500 miles or so ago, and I just need to know where to start looking for problems. I had already fixed one problem with the oil cooler leaking, but this don't seem like an oil pressure problem, almost like it's not getting enough fuel sometimes. If anyone could help, I'd greatly appreciate it.
'91 Firebird Formula, TPI 350, auto, ported heads, stock otherwise though.

New motors often need a valve adjustment after a few miles. Also, don't forget the basics; check the plugs, make sure all the injectors are plugged in good, etc. With a new engine, somewhere in the 500-100 mile range is a great time to check it over real good, re-torque things like intake bolts & headers, etc.
What part of Memphis are you in? I lived there for a long time, so lomg it's embarassing to admit.... I last lived in the Summer-Graham area.

Well, I had the plugs checked about 100 miles ago, and all the bolts retorqued at the same time. The bolts in my dist. had backed out, so I had all the other bolts checked when I got it fixed. But, I'll go ahead and check the fuel injectors and valve and sensors like mentioned above. I'm going to change the fuel filter today, anyhow. I never replaced it when I was getting all the other work done to it.
Well RB83L69, right now I live across the state line in DeSoto County, but I lived out in Bartlett for a couple of years, but I'm familiar with where you're from. They're doing so much construction on and around Summer, I'm thankful I don't have to drive out that way anymore.
