LTI/LT4 heads with carb on L98 block???
Ok guys, I am throwing around the idea of putting on some LT1/LT4 heads on my L98. I am already converted to carb, so I would need the carb intake with the dist hole.
My question is, would it be worth it. Do these heads flow ok? What kind of work would I have to put into the heads to run a comp xr282hr or 288 cam? Will my hedman 1 5/8's headers work on the exhaust ports?
Also how will I run the cooling? Possibly a thermostat housing with lines running to each head? What about the stock L98 water pump. With it work or do I need to change it also.
the only reason I was thinking about these heads, is I can get them cheap or possibly for free.
Or would I be better off just getting some trickflows and keeping my Team-G intake
thanks

Not worth it. The modifications that would be needed either to the block or to the head, and then the cooling system setup you would need to go with would be way more money than getting a good set of regular small block heads that flow better anyways. Sell the LT1/4 heads and buy a set of Vortec heads for cheap.

Its perfectly possible to do this swap for little more money than the cost of the heads. I am just about finishing a similar setup, and I'd say that the cost on top of the heads was about $40
Having said that, the high cost of the GM lt1 carb intake does make it less attractive, but its possible to modify many standard sbc intakes for this. Also I welded up the heads and tapped the coolant holes myself.
As for cooling, some -an 10 hoses from the front AND rear of each head going into the standard intake water crossover finish the setup.
If you can do most of the work yourself its a bargain.

I'll go along with Guss_B on that.
There are various factors on whether it's worth it or not. One of the greatest factors is how much of the work you'll do yourself.
Something to consider as well, is whether you're going to want 2.02"/1.6" valves, because those won't fit unless you replace the seats, but 2.0"/1.55" will... According to my sources.
To make some LT1 heads the equivqlent of trickflows might end up costing the same as some TFs though. Cause their flow#s aren't as good as trickflows with out professional work.

sounds like you guys have made up my mind.
I think I will just clean up my L98 iron heads for now. Then just buy some TF's or AFR's later on. Its not realy going to be worth it in the long run.
thanks guys for the info.
