exhaust leak, is it really that big of a deal?
i have a 89 rs 305 with 60k miles on it, and there is a huge hole in my muffler from the person that i bought my car from. it sounds really sweet but would it really decrease my power by that much, its a pretty big hole by the way, so im guessing i have like no backpressure. any comments are appreciated

IMHO cars with stock low-performance motors and leaky exahust sound *******, high-school, and/or low-life. People who know what they're doing won't generally tolerate their car making all that racket, basically advertising their worn-out car. Plus, like the other post mentioned, it's not safe because the driver can get poisoned by the fumes, that's why they wont pass a car through inspection with leaky exhaust systems in lots of places; and since that makes the exhaust leak into the car through every crack and hole, your car's interior and all its occupants smell like exhaust after a little while. And it does affect performance negatively, even though sometimes (especially if you don't have much experience with cars) your butt dyno gets recalibrated by the noise. It almost always costs power.
In case you can't tell, I think you should fix it.

yah i think you guys are right about the whole performance part, but i disagree with the noise. i mean i know it is kinda of like being a *******, but i think it makes it sound really meen. and i havent had a problem with the exhaust fumes hurting me. i think i will change it though and put on a flowmaster or something.
Buy a new Dynomax cat-back (less $$ than the others) and forget about it. Just my $0.02.

flowmaster 80 series it pretty loud and shakes the car, but its not the best as far as performance goes.
