Big datalog problems...
Did I screw something up, or did something just happen to die at the same time?
I connected the ALDL cable. Opened datamaster, set up the com ports and vehicle type. Then I turned the key foward, hit test com, and it said successful and recognized my ecm. I could see my tps voltage...etc
I go to start it, it fires right up, vroooooom, then shuts off in 2 seconds (multiple tries). I unplug everything, same thing. I connected the A and B terminals, only a code 12.
Ideas?

Ok, I just unplugged the battery for 20 min, and it fired and ran fine.!?!?
Then I hooked up the aldl cable again, winaldl was green, giving me sensor data, go to start it, same thing.

i don't use datamaster so i know nothing about it.
does it die if you stay on the gas petal some, say what would normally have it up around 2000 RPM?

It dies in 2 seconds no matter what. It is def ecm related. It dosent even try to stay running. After I have the ALDL hooked up, I have to reset my ecm so the car will start. After the reset, it runs great until I try to datalog again.

i have never ran across anything like that, it kind of sounds like something in Datamaster is turning the VATS on, but then they didn't use VATS in 88 as far as i know.
i see you asked over in DIY Prom,.. maybe someone will have an answer for you over there.
its a really strange problem.
maybe give 1 of the other data logging software apps a try & see what they do.

It does it with winaldl, datamaster, and tuner pro. I can get data when the key is foward from all of them, but it wont run again till I reset the comp.

i know you have probably already tried, but does the ALDU1 cause the same thing in both the other 2 positions besides the down=short position?
does it flash the check engine light in the shorted position with the key on engine off?
Craig sells some good stuff. if nothing else, e-mail him about this.
probably not whats wrong, but there may be a driver or some other problem causing this.
