cam and lifters

my friend has a 84 camaro with a 305 and told me he needs to change the cam and lifters to get it running good he asked me to do it but i've got my own projects to work on so i wont have time. How much do you think it'll cost him do have the work done at a local repair shop, he has all the parts im told so the price is mainly labor.

$700+. I figure a 12+ hour job, multiply by the hourly rate. So, if a $60/hr rate, you're already at $720+. Rates in my area are about $85/hr unless you've got a buddy.

New lifters, new cam. There is a specific wear pattern that develops between the cam lobe and its corresponding tappet. Change one out for new and you are asking for premature wear on the cam and the lifter.

Will have to agree on this one, plus id say there will not be much difference in price. If there gonna change the lifters, you might as well go ahead and do the cam too.
