Help, Hesitation.
I have a 2.8L MPFI 88 Camaro and when it first starts no matter on a hot or cold day it hesitates when you push the gas pedal. It's like a delay in when you push down the pedal and when the car reacts to it. After driving it a mile or two there is no more hesitation. It only does this at slow speeds like around a parking lot or something. Can anyone give me some clues to what it might be? I have replaced my cap and rotor and cables recently. I replaced my plugs about 6 months ago so I doubt it's any of that stuff. Well any help is appreciated.

Mine went away after being service by a mechanic, but it's back now. Try replacing your O2 sensor (mine got replaced, but started hesitating bad again after an anti-freeze leaked dripping right on it for about a week.) and make sure your trottle body and intake are clean.

My spark plugs are less than 800 miles old, they're Bosch Platinum standard ones (none of that 'V' or '+4' crap.
Another thing it could be, that I was just alerted to on another post, is the pickup coil (not to be confused with the ignition coil).

You can test the resistance of the ignition and pickup coils with an ohm meter. A Haynes repair manual will show you how and give you the specs. I had a no-spark starting problem the other day and tested both and they were fine. I then took out the module and had it tested at AutoZone. They said it was fine, and after I put it back in, the car ran fine. Until the next day.
Took it out again and this time it checked out bad. It's been OK for 4 days now. Cross my fingers.

Josh, there's a bunch of simple things that could cause that; you should take care of a major tuneup first. A tuneup's much more than plugs & wires... for the full V6 (and adaptable to V8's) major tuneup list, read this old message of mine:
https://www.thirdgen.org/messgboard/...ML/000545.html
If that doesn't fix the problem, at least you have less to guess about. (Plus, you'll probably give your car some more ***** along the way!)

Thanks Tom for the link, I've done pretty much all of that tuneup stuff. I have changed oil, oil filter, trans filter, trans fluid, fuel filter, plugs, plug wires, distributor cap, rotor, and complete brake job all within the last year. The only thing I have not done is clean the intake or change the coolant about. Thanks for the tips though.

Did you check your base timing after the new cap & rotor? Changing those parts can alter the timing a bit. If it retarded it, even a little, then that would cause less throttle response, i.e. a bog or hesitation.
And like my repley earlier. Check stuff before you change it. That's the easiest way. Again, that Haynes manual will tell you a lot of this stuff. Not everything, but it's written for Shade Tree mechanics like us.

I have not checked the timing, but it was giving me this problem before I changed the cap, rotor, and wires. I ordered a new O2 sensor but I dunno if that will do anything.

We didn't really come to a conclusion. I had my ignition coil replaced cause it went bad, and well I still have the hesitation. It hesitates all on start up and when I am just starting it up after a long time. But it runs pretty good, I just guess that's how the car will be.
