im getting a little hot even w/ a 160* t stat



i bought a 160* stat for my 88..
it was hella overheating before(talkin 260)
in mid day 95-100*, it hits 220 now....
radiators been flushed and cleaned......
i heard something about the stock PROM
not liking to low of t-stat.... is this true???

For emissions, our cars were designed to run with a high degree thermostat. Drilling a small hole in the thermostat may help with cooling. You could also try a lower temp fan switch.. I read on this board that you could use a fan switch from an 85-87 buick grand national in place of yours to kick the fans in at around 205.

Rezinn is correct on both counts. A 180°F thermostat is more appropriate for a stock PROM, but even it won't do much good to change the coolant temperature if the water pump isn't pumping, the lower air deflector is damaged or missing, or the fan controls haven't been changed to operate the fans at something less than the stock 223°F settings.

how hard is it to swap
the stock fan controls
for a control that activates
around 205* what am i looking
to spend??? how is it done??

When is your car getting that hot? standing still or while your moving?

Like vader mentioned there are many things that can contribute to high coolant temps.
What king of engine do you have?
