computer reset
what do you mean "to get the codes"?
when you disconnect the battery you are in effect erasing the memory that your ecm has learned from the sensors in your engine.. the purpose of disconnecting the cable, or erasing the memory, is to remove the record of the SES code that your car has stored in its memory, so when you check for new codes, you aren't seeing the old ones.
the computer, or ECM in our cars, learn from our driving habits and engine conditions. The ecm through the sensors adjusts the amount of fuel, timimg, etc, so that our cars run efficently, (or for the most part with the least amount of emissions.)
So, by resetting your ECM you erased the SES codes that were already set in the memory of your computer, so now when you check the codes, nothing should show up, (except for one flash, two flashes..)
the only time it should show a code now is if the ECM detects another problem.
Your ECM will re-adjust, or reprogram itself after about 20 miles of driving.
Good luck! Glad to see you figured your problem out!

Well actually now the service engine light kindof flashes on and off. It is pretty obvious something is still loose but I am have a hell of a time finding it!!!
Thankyou for responding, I was trying to clear the old codes and see if anything had changed.

Bottom of page has a good start for codes. Have you pulled them yet? If not grab a paperclip and go...
