Relying yet again for help on a non-thirdgen --88 Suburban--
Yet again I turn here for the non-thirdgen stuff. This is beginning to become a habit I think.
Anyway, my question is simply this: Does anyone know of any sites or junkyards in the country that will ship out driveshafts? I have looked all over this cheezball state and it seems almost all the yards toss the driveshafts once they get the vehicles. I can not fathom the reasoning for this practice, but it sucks since the truck puked out the driveshaft on the highway (pretzel).
Pertinent info:
1988 Suburban 1/2 ton, 2 wheel drive, 350 TBI, driveshaft is the two piece with the changeover joint. I'm missing the back one.
Also if anyone knows how to remove that rear yoke from the shaft I would really appreciate the advice.

On the front of the middle yoke, you will see a tin cap. It will have little ribs..heheh...on it and it just threads off.
This little "cover" will stay on the front half of the driveline and the rear section will slide off.
Sometimes if you just pull real hard the whole thing will come apart.

Got a driveline shop here in Oceanside, they do great work, unfortuantely it's a little far to go... but they'll sell a shaft by itself, maybe with a core charge, I have no idea what they'd charge for one of those. It would prbably cost $15 or $20 to ship it each way.

The west coast boys do it again! (anyone surprised?) Thanks a bunch guys.
Isn't that the truth, funny how out there they have enough brains to keep them though eh? If you can could you post the name and number of the place I'd appreciate it, or alternatively, I could e-mail you and arrange something with you. Either way, I'd like to get the bloody thing in my hands sooner rather than later, y'know what I mean? It's too bloody hard driving the wife and both kids around in the 'sports' cars!

RD, I have a 2-pc driveline from a LWB late 70's or early 80's Chevy PU, might be the same as what you need...measure the length and send me an email with info, later tonoight I'll post the length of what I have.
I think I also have a 2-pc from a mid '60's LWB GMC.
Either way if the lengths are correct, might save ya some bucks.

EB - Dude, you are talking about the yoke on the back half of the divider right? (just checkin' b/c I'm feeling a slight bit retarded) I see the cap and threads, broke out the long *** pipe and proceeded to bend the pipe (read: not good!). That thing is on there. We even went so far as to chain the truck down and try and break it using a 3 ton jack. No go. Tell me there is a trick to it, I can't seem to get it off. Is it ok to put heat to it or will it ruin the seal? Will the cap come off after (i.e., can I toast the seal and just replace it after)? Can I use a port-a-ram to push it off the shaft?
And here I was under the impression that trucks were easier to work on. Why couldn't it be a bloody engine failure, that's easier!
8Mike9 - I will fly to the shop today at some point and measure what I can, I'll try to get all the separate measurements as it looks like I'm going to have problems removing the bloody yoke!
Thanks for the help guys!

The lack of available used driveshafts in Mass. (en mass?) may be due to the potential liability connected to the item. Too many lawyers in Boston?
You didn't pole-vault the 'Burban, did you? I hate it when that happens. You should be able to get a complete shaft, front to back, midship bearing and all, for less than $100.00. I could get one tomorrow, but the shipping might be cost prohibitive. Lemme know if you run out of options. You'know where I am.

You might try just pulling the driveline back, some styles of caps will slide off the front section.
We are talking about the slip yoke just past the carrier bearing right?? (going towards the rear end)

Gads, I wish I were at home right now. Guys any help would be greatly appreciated. I have yet had the chance to measure as it was a tad wet under the truck yest. and today (long story).
RB - Gracias man! Don't go out of your way, it seems like I may ask Vader for the favor to save on some $$$$. IF he can find it eh?
Vader - Too many metal hounds. The BIG DIG (no, please don't go there!) seems to be motivating people to scrounge for metal. Go figure. Can you tell I've been beating this thing to death? I'll tell you though, shipping would be a lot less from there than Cali. I'll have to get both you and RB on the horn and see what the hell happens. And yes, the 'burban did do a nice little vault, thank *** that the bloody thing is a weight monstrosity and pretzeled (note: I will take claim to this ?new? word!) the shaft after a nice short flight. Where the hell is that 'chute?
EB - Dude, I think we are talking about the same thing, however, I was describing the set up to a machine shop in Boston (already on the wrong foot, I can hear Jeff now) and the guy swears I was describing a 'Clevland' setup and that this setup was not used in '88. Go figure. I'm out of my natural element. I wish I could just con the bloody thing to come off!
So yes, the front yoke of the rear half. The one on the back side of the midship yoke, carrier yoke, framemount yoke, whatever the heck it's called. I've heard so many people try to describe the same thing I'm going loco. I spent about 2 hours on the phone today calling places other that dumps. I'm about to hop off the Tobin! Anyhoo, I will try to get a pic this week as it seems my descriptions seem lacking by all accounts. If per chance you know what the heck I'm talking about feel free to stabilize my sanity. I need it. BTW, can I heat the bitch with the gas conscience free?
Again guys, thank you.

Thanks guys.
I had two places looking for me, one struck out, so I'm holding out hope for the last one. If not, it's favor time.
Specs on the rear shaft:
With the yoke pushed toward the front of the truck the measurement is 36 3/4 inches (center to center of U-joint cap seat)
With the yoke pulled toward the rear of the truck the measurement is 34 1/2.
Full Length is apx. 67 3/4 from tranny to rear. It is IIRC a 700R4 tranny.
