Catalytic Converter Problem???
Catalytic Converter Problem???
After I cleaned my engine at my local do-it-yourself carwash my engine ran perfect for the 2 miles trip home. I went out an hour later and sprayed Eagle 1 tire gloss all over everything then drove to the store. Just as I pulled into the parking lot I noticed the engine was not idling right. When I came out of the store it started right up but about 1/4 miles into the 1 1/2 miles trip home. It totally lost power, when you push the accelerator, nothing. I was able to get to a near by parking lot where the car stalled. I opened the hood and the entire bottom of the exhaust manifold and the catalytic converter where glowing RED hot! I tried starting the car but it only would start, idle, then die. I walked home and came back about 4 hours later. The car started right up but after about 20 seconds it was idling bad again. I was barely able to get it home it only took about 60 seconds to get up to full operating temp, it did not overheat though.
What's going on???? The is my only transport aside from my GTA. It's a '93 Toyota Corolla that before this always ran perfect. It has 107,000 miles on it now. Does it have to do with the water on the engine, the eagle 1, or did my cat just go out finally?????? I know I'm going to have to replace my oxy sensor because it is right above the cat in the bottom of the exhaust manifold.
Thanks in advance, I need the car to get to work....

YES CHANGE THAT 02 sensor! It could be causing your car to run super lean, which would explain the red glow. Have you been doing regualr maintenence on the car?

Yes, the car has been mainained just as well as my GTA. I know the o2 sensor is good but maybe I got water on the connector for it.....
Anyway, I have the smog the car next week so I'll go ahead and replace the cat and the o2 sensor if I can get it to a muffler shop, I just want to know if that will solve my problem so I don't blow out the new cat and o2 sensor?
