A/C smoking?

Ok, so I have an interesting problem. lately around here it has been around 100 degrees daily so I have been using my a/c. usually I don't but it has been too hot not to. and today i was drivin and I noticed like a white haze coming out of all my vents, but it was only when I had the a/c on, not when the vent was on. this happened last year in one of my friends' cars. he has a 94 Honda Accord (GAG). i was just wondering if anyone had any kind of explanation for this cause it just struck me as odd.

from what i hear is that the Accumalator is probably cloggin up or needs the orifice cleaned out . This just means that it might have restriction makin it much more colder than usual and this will lead to some problems later.

Alot of people like to say " yeah it blows ice cold, you can even see smoke (mist) coming out the a/c" i heard this a couple of times and now i know what to tell them ...and sometimes they still deny it

No, the accumulator is not clogged, nor does the system get colder if the orifice tube is all plugged up!?!

What you are seeing coming out the vents is nothing more than water vapor. This is common when the heat and humidity are high and this is nothing to worry about. What's happening is simply that there is so much humidity in the air, that as the air passes through the evaperator, not all of the water is condensing and dripping down into the evaperator drain pan, and some is simply coming out the vent with the air stream in the form of water vapor. Relax and don't do anything to your A/C system. It is working properly.

Thanks 89Z. that was kinda my hunch but I just wanted to check and make sure because I don't know a WHOLE lot about a/c. especially since I hardly ever use it. and yeah the heat and humidity are very high around here right now, so that makes a lot of sense. thanks again.

On a hot simmer day my a/c gets really cold. If I switch it to regular vent, it blows mist

off topic, but 1989karr it sounds like you have my car. i too have an 89 firebird 2.8 with a slipping 700r4...its so depressing.. I wish tranny rebuilds wern't so expensive... and I wish i had the money to just do a t5 swap.

Really? Yeah I agree....the price of tranny rebuilds and paint jobs are sorely expensive ...almost makes me want to cry

haha I know were going off topic more, but don't worry. On top of that I got a very nasty oil leak, a worn timing chain, and some blue smoke on start up! lol

Hmm....I've got some miracle additives for ya!

I hear that stop-smoke crap works pretty well...you can find it at almost all auto parts stores. Smoke on startup is a general indication of valveseals....which is really no big deal to fix. Rings is smoke all the time, valveseals is just generally on startup, due to oil leaking down past them into the cylinders.

And for the tranny...try adjusting your line pressure a little bit at the TV cable, there's a tech article on the site for it. And also, another "miracle additive"....Lucas Transmission Fix. I've used this stuff in all of my auto trannies except the brand brand new one....and lemme tell you it's pretty amazing. My old AOD trans, went from slipping pretty bad....to barking second gear and holding together very well.....lasted about 2 months this way. And this trans had over 150,000 miles and was behind a modified engine... That additive REALLY helped, I was stunned at the difference. Well worth the cash, IMO.

And USUALLY, I don't advocate additives at all. Only ones I run are Lucas products, just the injector cleaner and trans additive, and then Engine Restore....

Does it have any odor? Ive never had fog come out of the A/C in my cars but who knows. It is at 100% humidity coming off the evaporator coil and maybe its just not reaching the dewpoint untill the very end of the coil. Just a WAG but maybe the system has lost enough charge that only part of the evaporator is getting cool, leaving warm and cool air to mix after it passes the evaporator.

hey Nixon1, I have seriously thought about that tranny additive, but after reading around on here people say that they do more harm then good... i have 150,000 miles on it and its never been rebuilt, nor do I have the money to do it.. should i reallytry the additive? I dont' want to f it up worse than it already is. and I did adjust my line pressure...didn't change anything.

I can't speak for sure... All I can say is, in MY transmissions, I swear by the stuff. It absolutely worked miracles.
