Replace O2 sensor...?

My Camaro has 85,000 miles on it...I don't think the O2 sensor was ever changed...lately I've been noticing my Air/Fuel gauge has been acting odd, with the sensor sweeping over the entire range far too much; what I mean is it's telling me my mixture is lean and stoic at the same time, or stoic and rich at the same time; it's not singled out...(Autometer gauge)...I know it's not my wiring job, but I fear the O2 sensor...could that be it? I guess I was going to replace it anyways, but this just made it more noticeable...I dunno about fuel consumption, it seems about the same...I think... :P

a heated o2 senser is better for the a/f gauge. the single wire senser is basically lean/rich and just goes back and forth between the two. it should only cost about 20 dollars for a new one so replacing yours wouldn't be too costly, a headed one is around 50 dollars.
