Name that Probem! : Power Loss and Rear Vibration

Hey everybody,

I have this problem with my 86 TA. (305TPI/700R4) I just finished bolting a new tranny up to it and finished tightening everything up today. Anyways I took it out for a short test drive and the car ran perfect. Silky smooth and tons of power.

Then I waited an hour or so and took it out again. Without changing anything I pulled out of the driveway and went down the block. The mid/rear of the car was vibrating slightly and the car lost a lot of power (couldn't even burn tires off idle ) The next day I repeated the 2 test drives and got the same results.

My question is what could this be. My intitial hunch was either driveshaft, rear-end, or lack of tranny fluid (causing vibration once it all goes into the cooling system). My second guess was a plugged exhasut. Can anybody tell me what this could be? Any guesses at all, becasue I am kinda stumped and I would like to have a starting point before I start doiuble checking everything.

Thanks for the help,
-Max

TTT... also mine is doing the same thing ('91 RS 3.1L 700R4...) I just got my transmission rebuilt. My car is vibrating also. I also feel that it has lost power. It also likes 2 jump around. Like on the Speedometer and the RPM's... it'll jump around a few RPM's... When I'm idling at a red light it'll go up and down a few RPM's... not smoothly though like jumping liked really fast every few seconds. If I turn my stereo down I can hear it sounding like it wants 2 rev up. When I'm on the highway and it shifts gears (automatic) It will start picking up speed... but will kinda stop so I have to punch it to get it to go the right speed. If anyone can help us please reply!! Thanks in advance.

As for the vibrations, my guesses would be
1)Worn UJoints(fasteners may have come loose).
2)Damaged trans mount(or possibly the
bolt(s) came loose). When you put the car in gear do you notice a loud thud?
3)I believe that the trans yoke and differential yoke have to line up a certain way.
4)Did you seat the torque converter properly?

I haven't had much experience with swapping trannys or driveshafts, etc. so the above guesses are just that--gueses. I'm sorry I don't know what to say about the power loss. Try posting these questions on the trans. board or suspension board; that may net more responses.
