If I had too little vacuum, what would happen?

I've replaced a whole bunch of lines, and cut plastic lines in favor or rubber lines because the plastic was completely collapsed. I didn't use any clamps though. So what would be the end result if I had a whole bunch of little vacuum leaks that made no noise?

What would be the exact symptoms of low/flakey vacuum?

If you only replaced small hoses, the vacuum leaks you may have created would probably not be noticeable if you connected them right. A vacuum leak can cause the car to die, run rough at idle, or even cause hard braking. To check for a leak, spray carb cleaner on the suspect area and watch to see if the engine speeds up.

No, I did the big lines... underneath the schrader valve, at the back of the intake it goes from a metal fitting, to a 1.5 inch long rubber hose, to a plastic vacuum line JUNKtion... I replaced that bit of rubber hose.

On same plastic contraption, there is a plastic line that wraps around the passenger side of the intake up to the IAC passageways..., I cut most of that off because I had a kink there and replaced it with rubber lines... again, not clamped off... I replaced some small lines that are incorperated with the charcole canister, but they have fittings for lines, so I didn't -need- to use clamps (too small for them anyway.)

Yesterday before I messed with the big lines again, my hesitation was gone, and the car pulled harder, but now that I completely replaced them, my hesitation is back and with no pull.. am I halucinating? Or is this a definate side-effect?

Don't flame me... but I'm a little paranoid about spraying stuff, especially flamable stuff, on my running engine... See, I had a bad experience when I was a kid with a mini-bike I had... the rubber fuel line came in contact with the muffler, and caught of fire... I was rather terrified. Ever since I've been paranoid of engine fires... To make me feel better, how safe of a practice is it to be spraying stuff on a hot running engine, or leaving WD-40 on an O2 sensor for a week, while driving...

Lastly, I'll be trying to get a friend to borrow a vacuum guage from school sometime soon. Once I get it, where is a good place to hook it up for testing purposes?
