A.I.R. & Headers questions..

ok well as some of you know I have to get my engine rebuilt.. I would like to put a set of headers on when I drop the engine back in.. problem is my truck has that A.I.R. crap that hooks up to the exhaust manifolds.. I know edelbrock makes a set which will adapt to it but are very expensive. Is there anyway to get rid of the A.I.R. Pump and all that? I was told it doesn't do much as far as emissions. I know there's a 2 wire plug that connects to some kind of solonoid after the pump. if I unplug that connector when it's running the engine dies. what would I have to do with that plug? short the wires or something?

thanks.. also if you have any suggestion for decent headers at a good price.

If you live in a smog state, where they do underhood checks, then I'd keep it on there if I were you. It really doesn't effect power much at all.
But, If that doesn't apply, like me, I removed the air tubing off my exhaust manifolds, plugged the holes, removed my air management valve (unplugging it won't set off a code), and ran a hose from the pump straight to the Catalytic Converter connection. You still need to run air to it so it doesn't overheat. It can also eventually cause the Cat to plug up.

Now for paint, interior, etc...etc.....Future Mods: Get rid of the 100 or so interior rattles.
