Do I need this sensor in the t-stat housing?

I cracked the thermostat housing on my 82 Trans Am(LG4), and my dad picked up a chrome one, but it only has a hole for the coolant sensor. I have removed my air pump and all of the lines coming out of this sensor are plugged, except one going into the carb. What is it for and will I be ok without it, or should I find a new housing?

The underside of the hood should have a VECI label affixed to it. Included on that label should be a vacuum hose routing diagram:

With no A.I.R. system, you should be able to operate with only one TVS.
