Ok, I've finally got my car roadworthy again, and it's great. However, my tachometer is insane/possesed/a piece of crap. As far as I can tell, it works when I'm not moving, the needles goes up and down if I rev it a bit in park. When I'm actually driving, it's a totally different story. It'll read 1500 at 70 mph on the freeway, sometimes it doesn't move at all, sometimes it will skip 2000 rpms and jump from 1.5 to 3.5. Driving me nuts. Any ideas on what's wrong and/or can be fixed? I have an MSD 6AL ignition box I need to put in, and I understand that they somehow interact with the tach, might that help? Or should I just say ****it and get an aftermarket tach? I understand they are expensive, and I'm a poor student, so that'd be kind of a last resort. The tach not working wouldn't be such a big deal, except that my speedo doesn't work because my dumbass put the wrong gears in the tailshaft after I swapped rear axles. any ideas are very welcome.
