crap sprayin out of carb when trying to start

crap sprayin out of carb when trying to start

I just installed a cam and i lined up the dots on the timing gear and crank gear i brought the motor to tdc on first cylinder and installed the distributor all wires are right but when i crank it...it just sprays crap out of the carb and it looks kinda oilycan figure out what the problem is any help would be appreciated....

Are you saying those were done at the same time, i.e., with the dots together you're at TDC? If so, you're very likely at TDC on #6, and you're igniting the mixture in the intake through an open intake valve on #1. The oily-looking part is probably carbon that's been deposited on the ports being desolved by the gas and blown back up the carb.

Check TDC on #1 either by checking for pressure out of the spark plug hole as the timing mark approaches 0, or by watching the rockers as it approaches 0 (neither should be moving for about half a crankshaft rotation). Either way, have the power to the distributor disconnected when you do this. Then, check the rotor again to make sure it's pointing at #1, if not, remove distributor and turn it to #1.

Sounds like a timing problem to me. Your distributor might be off 180*
