difference in oils?

what is the difference it 10w-30 and 10w-40? i read in a different thread that if u run ur car hard use 10w-40. will that last longer against oil burnoff?

When I went to General Motors Training Center back in the 70s, they said NEVER use a 10W-40 because it would thicken up and cause all kinds of problems. If you are going to run a synthetic, 10W-40 would be OK. I run AMSOIL 0W-30 now but I'm going to switch to a 0W-20 for better performance and gas millage.
