Slight thump in 1-2nd gear ONLY

Alright, my friends 2.8L 89 RS has a really light thump on his consol whenver hard accelerating, now i told him that it is probably a tranny mount, but its weird because it will ONLY thump when shifting from 1st to 2nd, 2nd to 3rd it doesn't make any noise, and the thump isn't loud at all, its sounds more like a person hitting on the bottom, very weird sounding. Do you guys still think its a tranny mount, or maybe just the bolts are loose, cause its a muffled thump.

why not get under the car and look at the trans mount and see if it's broke?

Thats probably because the monster 2.8l doesnt have enough torque to slam the tranny into the floor on any other shift.

someone asked bout the same question on another post. to check the tranny mount jack the car up, then put the jack under a solid part of the rear of the tranny and raise it some and see if the mount pulls apart, it is sometimes hard to see if the mount is bad with it in a rest postion. and it may only do it from 1-2 shift cause of the gear drop from 1-2, and most transmissions i have seen shift harder 1-2 than 2-3 which would make the tranny jump up more. hope this helps. lil jay

Not true. When my mount was broke, I would go less than half throttle and still hear it bang. Always banged, just got louder the harder I pressed on the gas.

When I broke my trans mount I heard and felt a "thump" when I shifted from Park to Drive.
