engine ideas?

i am planning on "building" an engine for a car i don't have yet, i am trying to find something like a 87+ camaro or trans am with 305 or 350 tpi, but i kind of have the idea of what i was looking for and was kinda hopping you guy could give me some info and ideas about other things that can be done and what not.

first off the car is going to be my weekend car, but with the miles i rack up we might as well just call it a daily driver.
i'm looking to put about $2000-2500 in the engine. and i was thinking about starting with a stock truck engine(from like a 1996 silverado, tahoe, ect) and keep the vortec heads, vortec tpi intake manifold(duhh) and topping it with the accel super ram. and just using the old TB, distributor, ect.(or should i upgrade, and if i should what are some good options)

now my question start with whats a good cam, i really want something that will give me a okay idel, with good power for mainly street use and maybe once in a blue moon track use.

i really want to have a good 350-400 HP and 400+ ft/lbs.

any help or ideas would be great...

thanks

Trucks don't have TPI, they have TBI.

LT4 Hot Cam would be a good bet as long as you upgraded the heads to handle the extra lift.

i know, i just want to get a truck engine because i would get vortec heads with it, and just use all the sensors, wireing from the camaro, and the vortec tpi base and accel super ram.

i can use a truck's engine(block and heads) cant i?
