Engine starts hard and won't fire.
I replaced the starter on my IROC and now the motor turns over very hard and sqweeks while it turns. I haven't set the timing yet b/c I havn't had the motor running well enough to set it.
I was wondering if the starter could be binding up with the flywheel and if I should shim it up.
Any suggestions?

If the starter squeaks while operating, the reman unit was probably assembled wrong and/or without lubrication. It may also be due to a tight bushing or misaligned end cap.
If the starter creates a loud grinding or gnashing sound while cranking, that would be an indication of starter misalignment and possibly the need for shims.
