Checking codes and running rich

I am trying to read the codes on my car. My first time so bear with me. I put a paper clip in the spots 6 & 12, and 5 & 6 as the tech article here and it says some cars use that spot instead. I turn the ignition on and the SES light Flashes then stays on consitatnly. I do this in both positions multiple times. Still the same result. The PROM was replaced recently but not the ECM, is that next? If so how long can I drive it as is? I am short on cash as I always am.

Also it is running rich, I can tell by smelling the exhaust. I figure this is what the SES light is saying but I still want to double check. How do I solve this problem? I replaced the O2 sensor about 2 months ago when I had my new exhaust welded on. What else should I check?

You should put the jumper (paperclip) across the top 2 righthand terminals. They are labeled A&B. Then turn the key to the 'on' position. The SES light should start flashing code 12 (this indicates diagnostic mode). 1st 1 flash and a short pause, then 2 flashes and a slightly longer pause. Then there will be another pause and that sequence will repeat 2 more times. There will be another pause followed by a similar sequence of any codes in memory. Each code will flash 3 times, then pause before the next code flashes. When all codes (or none) have flashed, code 12 will flash again and will continue the above sequence until the key is turned off or the jumper removed. If the light doesn't flash when jumpered as above, there is likely a problem with the ECM.
