Please help..very very bad situation..
Alrighty here it goes..I went to go start my camaro on sunday and when i turned the key the engine started to crank then i heard a *boom*. I had the hood open and could see smoke coming out from around one of the spark plug wires at the boot near the engine..Now I thought I might have fried the wire so i put a new one on and now the car just wants to start but just can't. It seems like it's struggling to fire..Does anyone have any idea what this is? I'm kinda worried about the car..Any and all help is appreciated.

First off... start with some info about the car, what year, what engine... ect. Then go ahead and do some looking for yourself, take the plugs out and read them, especially the one from the smoking hole... get back to us with some more definitive info instead of "*boom*, smoke".

Would kinda seem like you had an intake backfire...question is why, and what may have been damaged?
Could be the backfire took out the MAF sensor, there is a screen in it to prevent a backfire from damaging it, but who knows?
Try unplugging the electrical connection on the underside of the MAf sensor (it'll be the roundish tube looking thing behind the aircleaner plastic. Undo the little clips that hold the snorkel down, gently lift up on the plastic "Y" (good time to change the air filters while you're there) and undo to connector.
If it starts up, then you've found one problem.
Next need to find out why it backfired.
Question, you say you had the hood up? Why was the hood up? Were you working on something, etc?

Gonna have to change my screen name to 8TYPO-KING9
