What must be changed for 350 swap?
Im almost ready to begin building a 350 for my 83 T/A. I got a 4 bolt main, steel crank short block. My goal with the new motor is to break into the 13's. What would I have to do to accomplish this? I already have the gear. I have a 3.73 posi. But I want to run consistent high 13's while using the CC Q-Jet, and CC distributor. Do I need to change the chip for a better spark curve. What about pistons, heads, cam? Please help. THX

I went 13.9 @ 100 with an el cheapo 357 i bought from a local machine shop in my 85 Z28. It had:
-garbage 1978 305 heads on it (only saving grace, they were cut for 1.94/1.50s)
-dished pistons (est 9:1 compression, +/-)
-wolverine 218/218 0.458" cam
-edelbrock performer intake
-stock computer, carb, distributor, and chip
-edelbrock TES into LG4 style Y into test pipe, into 3" fromaster cat back
The car itself had a half beat tranny that slipped the 1-2 shift badly. Also, a 3.08 one legger rear. Also, the day after i ran the 13.9 i pulled the heads to swap to something different. EVERY exhaust valve was burnt, and it had a mildly blown head gasket. Neither was a surprise, i'd suspected the head gasket for months, thats why i was doing the swap in the first place. More than likely all that damage was done the night i saw 155 mph...as it turned out, i had completely wrong metering in it for that blast, and i'm sure thats what did it all, as the head gasket symptoms appeared later that weekend.
Anyhow, as you can see, getting a carbed 350 in the 13s is so easy it's a joke. With better heads, or better headers, or better gears, or a better TC, or a better tranny it would have simply gone that much faster.

- Definitely prototypes, high powered mutants of some kind. Too weird to live, too cool to die

If the motor is per 80's then yo might find that the oil dip stick is on the wrong side. If it is on the drivers side then you will need to modify the exhaust system. To solve the problem I installed short hedders and the Y pipe from the manufacturer. It waas a lot simpler.
