MAF question

Hello, and good day. I have a 1988 GTA with the L98 350.
It is running at the moment, but this morning we could not get it going. It has fuel, and spark, so here is what it did. The car will run fine for about a month, then it will start to die. Today we put a rebulit MAF on it and could not get it to run. Then I switched to a old MAF that I had laying around and the car started. Then I put the new one back in and the car started fine, and ran fine. What the hell is going on? Please help the best you can.

If the MAF should set off a trouble code if it's defective. I'm not sure if it's the same on the 5.7's but when my MAF started messing up (my 2.8L TPI) I just disconnected it and let the ECM do the computing. It doesn't run quite as good, and it sets off a trouble code for the MAF. But by doing this next time it messes up, maybe it'll help you find out if that's the problem.

Side comment: When I did get a rebuilt MAF from Autozone it ended up being junk. I had to replace that the next day. I learned that a new(or rebuilt) part is not always a good part.
