draining ccolant
I have to drain my anti-freeze and run water in order to race my car in Mission BC. As I will be doing this at the track, anyone give a step by step instructions on the best way to do this? How much coolant do I have, what
size of hose (and how much ect.)
I was thinking of draining it into small buckets and then storing it in a (new) gas can.

L69 air cleaner installed! Yeh my Gf's Grand Am GT is still faster

I think the system holds around two gallons in it. Something like an oil catch pan would help out here, since it's usually wide enough and deep enough (and cheap enough) to catch any splashes. The quickest way to drain a system of coolant might be to disconnect the lower radiator hose. Let the coolant drain out, and then start the engine. This will help push out the coolant left in the block. Run some water through the radiator to flush that out as well. Afterwards, hook up the lower radiator hose and fill it up with water. Keep in mind that you're going to have air pockets all throughout the engine now, so keep an eye on the water level and the temperature, as air pockets do strange things to temperature gauges.
Of course, the PROPER way to go about doing this would be to do a radiator flush.. but that might take longer. Up to you.

The whole system holds somewhere close to 4 gallons. If you drain the radiator only, it's about 2 gallons, and you will leave the other 2 galons of coolant with AF in the block.
All you have to do to drain it, is open the radiator pet**** (I'll bet the BBS censorship hammers that word!!!) and remove teh 2 block drain plugs, let the coolant out, and put them back. The drain plug in the pass side of the block is the knock sensor.
If you drain it correctly and completely this way, you will end up with only a few ounces at most of coolant mixture left in the block. No flushing will be necessary.
