What would be a reasonable price on a 4 speed rebuild for a trans 8 cyl. 88 firebird formula?

Man it ranges from anywhere from 400 to 1200 $...I have heard that Aamco is not a good place to go...but they rebuilt my 84 f150 Tranny for about 700 and it ran great. You prolly have a 700r4 and they are pretty common...I would give an estimate of about 800$.

Well i had mine rebuilt for about 700 bucks, however a year later it went out again. ive heard that mr transmission is really good although ive never used there services. Check ebay, alot of times you can get a high performance package pretty cheap (500-800 bucks)

I would say that it would run about 1800-2000 for a good, reliable rebuild + other parts. Like good rebuild by someone who knows what their doing with a new quality TC. Dont be like me and buy a cheap TC and then be surprised when the TC makes loud funny noises and theres fistfulls of metal in the pan

I called two places got a quote of 1244 with no hard parts rerplaced, i have no clue what that means, and 1350 from another place. The car has a reverse and a 1st gear the rest are gone. it sucked driving it in first all the way through. the place at 1244 i have been taking my car there for about two years now so i kinda knwo the dude, the damn cars in and out of the shop. i live in nj i guess that might make the rebuild cost more also they are uninstalling and installing iot again. I am just worried from reading posts on this message board of it going again a year from now it comes with a one year warantee as is, but liek a year and a half from now i dont want he same issue.

You may be better off getting a new car (depending on condition, whether you like it, etc) than putting $1200 into rebuilding a tranny. If you can pull it yourself you may be able to get a used replacement really cheap.
Honestly i love sitting in that car and driving it i liek the feel of it and its nice a bit slow but its cool, it has its problems and i am willing to fix them plus buying a new car at this point is out of the question.

I wouldnt go so far as to get a new car man, look around some more and try to find a place that has a better warranty

You mean one from the dealer? If so probably an arm and a leg.what do the gm ones cost?
I checked on one at auto zone one time and i think it was like 900 buck or close to it.
I bought one off ebay for about 650 shipping and all, It is a high performance rebuilt unit, somehow the valve body has been modified for extra lubrication and has a heck of a shift kit and servo. it'll about break your neck into 2nd gear
Well since i dont have the time or tools or knowledge of taking it out of the car the trans will have to be disassembled and rebolted on by someone. I just dont want it to go out on me again in like a long *** time. I drive the car hard yea thats my fault but its my car i want to be able to go fast, it got to the point where i wanted to toss in a five speed or six speed. But i heard its real expensive to not only do the conversion from auto to manual, plus finding a trans that will handle 300 horses hopefully. If i find myself working at an actual job getting liek a real carrer i would like to redo the motor and gears completely. either that or buy a 82 corvette. But i want my car back and ai made the decsion that will get me my car back by this week.
There is the option of having one of thse pro-built transmissions delivered to and exchanged by a shop of your choosing.
How much would that run me to have those built im kinda screwed with the 1200 bill if its more than that its out of the question at this point in time. i think the car has been shipped to the vendor to be fixed already, my issue is that i am reading online that some of these rebuilds are not lasting it has a one year warantee i just want to to last me 4-5 years untill ican swap the motor and trans out
